Google Pixel Watch 5: Features, battery and price

The Google Pixel Watch 5 is a huge boost to Google’s wristwatch lineup. The updated edition, available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, combines proactive Gemini features, advanced health insights, more precise GPS and improved battery life.

Google has also kept the unique circular design of earlier generations, with a case manufactured from 100% recycled aluminum. The watch runs Wear OS 7 and is compatible with most smartphones running Android 12 or later.

Gemini Intelligence
offers proactive assistance

Pixel Watch 5 puts Gemini Intelligence in the spotlight. The At a Glance feature displays information relevant to you on the watch face, including boarding permits, transport updates and scheduled appointments.

Raise to Talk provides you instant access to Gemini with a flick of your wrist. On-device AI powers core actions, reducing latency and enabling some instructions to run without an internet connection.

Gemini Proactive Suggestions can also surface helpful information across supported Google services. It may, for instance, recognize an event on Google Calendar and display a proposed response for users to accept with a double-pinch.

Health Guardian expands health insights

The new Health Guardian system uses data from the Pixel Watch 5’s sensors to detect changes in your wellbeing over the long term. Monthly reports include trends in blood pressure, sleep breathing quality and insulin resistance.

These qualities do not yield clinical diagnosis, real-time glucose values or classical blood pressure measurements. Google said the results are for general wellness purposes and should not replace professional medical advice.

The smartwatch also brings breathing emergency detection. Its sensors and on-device AI sense a serious and sustained drop in oxygen saturation. If the user does not answer, the watch can call emergency services and send its position. The capability will initially roll out to select markets in Europe. Google’s official statement covers the health functions and their limits.

More accurate GPS and personalised fitness support

The Pixel Watch 5, according to Google, offers double the GPS accuracy of its predecessor in challenging conditions. It uses satellite data, 3D building models, atmospheric corrections and AI to improve route maps in cities and over covered paths.

And Google Health Coach offers personalized exercise and recovery guidance. A new strength-training mode will guide users thru sets and rest times, and let them log reps and weights.

Sleep analysis is also improved, with 15% more accurate detection of sleep stages. Smart Wake detects your heart rate and movement and wakes you when you’re in a lighter sleep phase within 30 minutes before an alarm.

Faster performance and a brighter display

An energy-efficient co-processor teams with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor. Google claims that the Pixel Watch 5 features a 50% boost in RAM, a 12% increase in CPU and overall 20% quicker performance than its predecessor.

It has an Actua 360 AMOLED LTPO screen that goes up to 3,000 nits to help you see better outdoors. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and 5 ATM water resistance means you may wear it for daily use and exercise.

Battery life, prices and availability

With the always-on display, the 41mm model lasts for up to 30 hours, or 48 hours in battery-saver mode. The 45 mm variant lasts 40 hours with the always-on display and up to 72 hours in battery-saver mode.

Prices start at $399 for the 41 mm Wi-Fi model and $429 for the 45 mm models.

The Google Pixel Watch 5 is Google’s most complete wristwatch yet with better performance, proactive Gemini help and a wider set of health functions.
