Xiaomi has refreshed its T line with two models that reach the market with a more ambitious proposal: the Xiaomi 17T and the Xiaomi 17T Pro. Both keep the DNA of the series, with a strong focus on performance, Leica cameras, AMOLED displays and generous batteries, but there are important differences that can influence the final choice.

At first glance, the two smartphones seem to follow the same philosophy. They have a modern design, IP68 certification, Leica-branded cameras, very bright displays and the new HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. However, the Pro model presents itself as the more complete version, with more power, better charging, a superior display, a more premium build and more generous storage options.

Design and build

The Xiaomi 17T Pro has a more refined build, with front glass and an aluminium frame. It is also the larger and heavier model, at around 219 grams, which makes sense given its larger battery and 6.83-inch display.

The Xiaomi 17T, on the other hand, chooses a more compact and lighter format, at around 200 grams. Its plastic frame places it one step below the Pro in terms of premium feel, but it may be more comfortable for those who prefer a smartphone that is easier to use every day.

Both feature Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and IP68 certification, which means resistance to water and dust. This brings the two models closer together and shows that Xiaomi has not reserved durability only for the more expensive version.

Display: both are bright, but the Pro goes further

The display is one of the areas where the difference between the two models becomes clear.

The Xiaomi 17T has a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The Xiaomi 17T Pro moves up to a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz.

Both panels reach a peak brightness of 3500 nits, which should ensure excellent outdoor visibility. Both support Dolby Vision and include eye protection certified by TÜV Rheinland, through the Xiaomi Vision Care system.

The Pro has the advantage for users who play games, watch a lot of video or value maximum fluidity. Even so, there is one important omission: the 17T Pro panel does not use LTPO technology. This limits energy efficiency, as the display cannot adjust the refresh rate as advancedly as some premium competitors.

Performance: the Xiaomi 17T Pro’s biggest strength

The biggest difference between the two models is the processor.

The Xiaomi 17T uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra, manufactured on a 4 nm process. It is a powerful chip, suitable for multitasking, games, computational photography and intensive use.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro goes further with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, manufactured on a 3 nm process. This processor places the Pro model in flagship territory, with greater capacity for demanding games, video editing, AI tasks and longer-term durability.

In practice, the Xiaomi 17T will be more than enough for most users. The 17T Pro makes more sense for those who want maximum performance and plan to keep the smartphone for several years without major limitations.

Both models include 12 GB of RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, eSIM and stereo sound with Dolby Atmos.

Leica cameras
very close, but with an advantage for the Pro

Photography is one of the main selling points of this generation. Both the Xiaomi 17T and the Xiaomi 17T Pro arrive with cameras developed in partnership with Leica, which reinforces the photographic positioning of the series.

Both feature a rear camera setup made up of:

  • 50 MP main camera
  • 50 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom
  • 12 MP ultra-wide camera

The Xiaomi 17T Pro has the advantage in the main camera, with a Light Fusion 950 sensor and a Leica Summilux f/1.67 lens. 4gnews highlighted the strong quality of the main camera, with high detail, realistic colours and effective optical stabilisation.

The 50 MP telephoto camera also deserves attention. The 5x optical zoom makes the smartphone more versatile for portraits, concerts, travel and long-distance
photography. Zoom up to 10x remains genuinely useful, but the AI Ultra Zoom up to 120x seems more like a curious feature than an essential tool for frequent use.

The weakest point lies in the ultra-wide camera and the front camera, which fall below the quality of the main and telephoto cameras. This applies especially to the Pro model, where expectations are naturally higher.

Video: a clear advantage for the Pro

In video, the Xiaomi 17T Pro also stands out. The Pro model can record up to 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 60 fps, with a stronger proposal for content creators.

The Xiaomi 17T records up to 4K at 60 fps, which is already very solid for social media, family videos and everyday use.

The Pro also adds a more cinematic experience, with better background separation and a more advanced approach to image capture. For content creators, vloggers or users who value high-quality video, the 17T Pro is the safer choice.

Battery and charging

Battery life is one of the biggest improvements in this generation.

The Xiaomi 17T includes a 6500 mAh battery with 67W fast charging. This is a capacity well above average and should guarantee excellent endurance throughout the day.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro moves up to a 7000 mAh battery, the largest ever used in a Xiaomi T-series smartphone in international markets. Around a day and a half of normal to intensive use, with the possibility of reaching two days with lighter use.

In charging, the difference also favours the Pro:

  • Xiaomi 17T: 67W wired charging
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro: 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging

Wireless charging is one of the arguments that places the Pro in a more premium category. The downside is that the fast charger is not included in the box, which may require an additional purchase.

Connectivity and storage

The Xiaomi 17T Pro also stands out in connectivity, with support for Wi-Fi 7. The Xiaomi 17T uses Wi-Fi 6E, which remains fast and modern, but is less prepared for next-generation networks.

For storage, the Pro offers more options:

  • Xiaomi 17T: 256 GB or 512 GB
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro: 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB

The 1 TB version is especially interesting for those who record a lot of video, install large games or use the smartphone as a work tool.

Software: HyperOS 3 with strengths and bloatware

Both arrive with HyperOS 3, based on Android 16. The experience promises fluidity, integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem and several smart features.

The system’s fluidity on the Xiaomi 17T Pro, with no freezes or slowdowns during the test period. It also highlighted integration with Xiaomi Share, which allows file sharing with Apple devices through native AirDrop support.

The downside lies in the pre-installed apps. HyperOS still includes some bloatware, which may bother users who prefer a cleaner Android experience.
